EVANSVILLE 鈥 The Sportsman鈥檚 Grille & Billiards has some shiny new upgrades. The Franklin Street spot closed for repairs and renovations on May 6 and re-opened in late May.

For diners, not a lot, which is a relief to most Sportsman鈥檚 patrons who were hoping the historic building and quirky interior would retain the same vibe. So, it鈥檚 the same old Sportsman鈥檚 that鈥檚 been there for decades, just a little spiffier in some important places.

Patrons enjoy the shiny interior of the newly re-opened Sportsman's Grille & Billiards on Monday, June 4, 2024.

Behind the food and beverage counter, the floor was completely removed and replaced with ceramic tile and new drains. The bathrooms were updated and refloored, and the staff took time to do a thorough deep clean.

Billiards players will notice the pool tables have been re-felted and that there are new sticks.

On the menu 鈥 no big changes. Sandwiches are still served with the Sportsman鈥檚 fresh cut fries. You may also have steak frites 鈥 a pile of fries underneath a sliced grilled ribeye steak.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday you can enjoy a 16-ounce porterhouse steak with Texas Toast and a side for $16.

Wings with housemade sauces (we鈥檙e a fan of the original sweet and spicy Sporty sauce), smoked pork eggrolls, and grilled Cajun shrimp are on the appetizer list, and of course the Sportsman鈥檚 will always be known for fantastic burgers, including the Cajun Black & Bleu Burger, a breakfast burger with bacon and a fried egg, and the 鈥渄ouble everything鈥 Two Fisted Bacon Burger.
