It's time to pick a new city flag for Evansville. Here's how to cast your vote

EVANSVILLE — Residents have until Dec. 4 to help choose the next flag for the city of Evansville.

There were 322 submissions from the public to the that have been narrowed to 21 finalists. Community members can vote on until 8:12 p.m. on Dec. 4.

Voting will be done through text messaging. Once a person has decided which flag they would like to vote for, they will text 844-812-0033 with the message EFLAG and their selections corresponding number.

For example, if voting for the first flag choice the message should read EFLAG1.

The winning flag will be presented to the Evansville City Council for potential adoption.

This go-around to select a new flag for the city has been spearheaded by four students from , with the help of some who served as judges to help pick finalists.

When it was announced the project would start taking submissions back in March, Atley Osborne, Alivia Westerfield, Amelia Wildernman and Collin Goebel had already been working on the competition for about a year.

Now the flags are posted on Facebook and the competition's for inspection prior to voting.

Each flag can be viewed on its own, or with the artist's description and explanation of the use of color, shape and other elements in the design.
