EVANSVILLE — It sure is nice to have high school football back. There were several great performances throughout Southwestern Indiana on the opening weekend.

Which one will get your vote for the Courier & Press Player of the Week? Here are the nominees:

Ty Brown, South Spencer

The junior quarterback totaled four touchdowns including three on the ground in his first career start in a 41-13 win against Tecumseh. Brown also intercepted a pass, all in the first half.

Kasey Hospelhorn, North

The senior totaled eight receptions for 55 yards including the game-winning touchdown with 35.1 seconds left in a 21-14 victory over Castle. He also scored a two-point conversion and forced a fumble.

Xander Hunt, Vincennes Lincoln

The senior finished 12 of 17 passing for 157 yards and three touchdowns plus a rushing score in a 49-30 win against Bosse.

Simon Schulz, Memorial

The junior wide receiver had three receptions for 62 yards and two touchdowns in the Tigers' 30-13 win over Jasper.

Liam Stone, North Posey

The senior quarterback had 146 total yards but, more importantly, five touchdowns in a 49-21 win over rival Mount Vernon.

Roland Vera Jr., Reitz

The senior completed a trifecta with three different touchdowns ‒ passing, rushing and receiving ‒ in a 45-0 win against Harrison.
